Film Screening - MIRACULUM

Join AMALS this Wednesday, January 31, as we introduce independent
director Sherif Iskander, and present his film, MIRACULUM:

In a society where relationships between Muslims and Christians are
frowned upon and partially illegal, MIRACULUM explores the thick lines
between love and tradition through the eyes of young inter-religious
couple in modern Egypt.

The film is only 30 minutes, which leaves time for questions, and
refreshments will be served!

When: Wednesday January 31
Time: 5:00 - 6:00
Where: Room 201, New Chancellor Day Hall (Faculty of Law) McGill University

I would like to thank Amals for organizing this event.
I have to say I was not impressed at all with the movie. The movie deals with the issue of inter-religion relationship in the Egyptian society quite superficially and from a very narrow angle. Tolerance in the Egyptian society is deeper than a couple that can not confront their families with their love and their fruit of love. Also, the choice of a rich elite couple is really a narrow representation of the whole Egyptian population.
I would advise for next events to invite a guest speaker who has an insight into the issue at hand so that viewers are not misled by the message of the movie being shown.

I'm am not sure what sort of "insights" you were hoping for Mr Atallah.

This film portrays the basic trap which occurs when a loving couple can neither marry or have a safe abortion by law.

It is not a representation of the whole population (which is quite impossible). It is a story of forbidden fruit and the price paid. Nothing more, nothing less.

This film has been officially selected at six international film festivals so far and has been very well received.

I would like to thank the AMALS for choosing to screen my film...
